VISUAL SOUND MOVEMENT

Ten years ago in New York City, dancer Shizuno Nasu initiated a multi-media collaboration between herself and artists from two other genres: painting and music.
The result is Visual Sound Movement, an invented space born of both the modern and the ancient. The spiral dance of Shizuno interacts with Masa’s unique alto saxophone music. Their dramatic improvisation is given visual context by Susumu, whose painting adorns the stage.
The upcoming February 2nd performance will add a special guest singer: Mijia will sing from Man’yoshu, the earliest extant anthology of Japanese verse.
Together they will present a captivating new world woven from both contemporary and traditional art.
